HOW TO CARE FOR MERINO WOOL
Merino wool is a natural, temperature-regulating material that keeps both you and your dog warm and comfortable all year round. With proper care, your wool products retain their softness, fit, and quality. In this guide, we go through how to care for Hundlands merino wool products, such as the Hybrido dog coat and the Warmee vest and jacket.
Air first - wash only if needed
Merino wool is naturally self-cleaning and rarely needs washing. Hang the garment outdoors for a few hours to refresh it, or place it in snow. Odours and moisture disappear naturally. This saves both time and wear on the material.
Tip: You can also place the garment in the freezer for 6–12 hours to quickly freshen it up and reduce odour.
Remove stains gently
Wool fibres naturally repel dirt, which means smaller stains can often be brushed off.
If a stain remains:
- Gently wipe with a damp cloth
- Avoid rubbing – it can damage the fibres
- Work carefully to avoid pressing the stain deeper into the material
Never use:
- Bleach
- Harsh stain removers
As these damage wool’s natural properties.
Washing instructions
If you’ve tried airing and still feel the garment needs washing, we recommend following the instructions below.
Hand wash
Fill a basin with lukewarm water (approx. 30°C) and add a gentle wool detergent. Submerge the garment and move it gently in the water for 1–2 minutes. Rinse in clean water. Gently press out the water (do not wring).
Machine wash
Select a wool program. These typically run at 30°C with low spin speed and gentle drum movement. Use a mild wool detergent. Avoid fabric softener, as it damages the wool fibres. We recommend using a laundry bag to protect the garment from friction in the drum.
Drying
Never tumble dry merino wool. Lay the garment flat on a towel or similar and let it air dry. Do not hang wet garments – they may lose their shape.
Please note that improper care may cause the wool to lose its unique properties, shrink, or change in structure
